Philosophy: Why this is near and dear to my heart

I’ve had deep desire to travel most of my adult life. And I’ve gone on small trips of a few days to 2 weeks. But then the feeling grew to being compelled to travel for a month or more. A dream I resisted with all my left-brain reasons for why that wasn’t a good idea. Finally, the pain of not going was too great. I made a decision, consulted with friends for guidance, made a plan, and went to Peru for 3 months.

I intended to: live with a family to truly experience the culture; learn Spanish to communicate and create my own day-to-day life; and to explore South American spirituality. I accomplished all of this, spending about a month on each!

My trip was based almost entirely on intuition and paying attention to the present moment, as well as friends I met along the way. This was a conscious decision to depend more on my right-brain than the left, which had dominated my adult life up until that time.

The experience was life-changing, I was truly inspired to think and live differently – and I hope to inspire others to grow their consciousness by traveling in this way!

Some things I learned:

  • I can listen to and follow my intuition.
  • The present moment contains all the guidance i really need.
  • The more gratitude I practice, the more I’ll have what I need and want.
  • Life is truly about enjoying the journey, not just getting to a destination. Though we also need a destination in mind to create our journey!
  • People are truly kind. I met so many wonderful travelers and locals who wanted to be authentically helpful.
  • I can live with very little. A backpack of stuff for 3 months.
  • Belongings mean less than the ever did – life is now about experiences and relationships.
  • I can’t control everything that happens to me, but I can give my life direction and choose how I respond to life.
  • Love leads to a lot more fun than anything else!
